Project Artistic Director, Ananya Ohri was invited to speak at the Society for Cinema and Media Studies Conference on Saturday, March 17th, 2018. Ananya did a case study on Home Made Visible: Regent Park, an event held at the 2017 Festival that invited past and present residents of Regent Park to a story sharing circle that celebrates the memory of pre-revitalized Regent Park.

“Home Made Visible: Personal Archives and Public Memory in Regent Park” Case Study:

What is the impact of a personal archive on an entire community?

Regent Park is Canada’s oldest and largest housing project. It is currently being redeveloped into a mixed-income community. For the last 15 years many people have told the story of Regent Park, a meta-narrative of troubled inner-city life and poor design. How does developing counter-archive, through shared storytelling, inform our understanding of community spaces and city building from the perspective of those who (continue) to experience displacement?
