Home Made Visible is going on tour to 16 locations nationwide – and the dates are now live! We are excited to bring the six short films and one mixed media installation by our commissioned artists to cities near you. If you weren’t there for the World Premiere of Home Made Visible during the 16th Annual Regent Park Film Festival this year, then you should surely come to one of the libraries in which our FREE exhibition will be taking place. 

Exhibition: All films are available to screen on a designated screening computer at the featured branch. 
Screening: A one time screening of the program that includes a Q&A with the Project’s filmmakers. 
Workshop: Come out and build your own archives!
Installation: A mixed media installation Reunion by Melisse Watson. 

Don’t know much about Home Made Visible?

Home Made Visible is a nationwide archival project that brings a personal lens to Indigenous and visible minority archives through FREE exhibitions, screenings, and workshops in libraries across Canada.

Here are some photos from our incredibly successful and engaging Super8 workshop. We partnered up with the8fest this year to host a FREE hands-on filmmaking workshop using Super 8 film, and spent the day out and about the streets of Regent Park! 

The ten workshop participants were mostly local TCHC residents from Regent Park. 

Why Super8? Because Super 8 film, the classic “home movie” format.

Were you there for the world premiere of Home Made Visible at the 16th Annual Regent Park Film Festival? After the premiere we had a talkback with our eight commissioned artists whose works were shown on the big screen: Maya Bastian, Faraz and Parastoo Anoushahpour, Lisa Jodoin, Aeyliya Husain, Nadine Arpin, Jennifer Dysart, as well as Melisse Watson who had a mixed-media installation in our Virtual Space this year.

Two of our talented Home Made Visible artists, filmmaker Maya Bastian and  multidisciplinary artists Melisse Watson, were interviewed by Support Your Local Collective on Radio Regent on the thinking behind their works “Arrival Archives”, and “Reunions; Self Determinations of the Black American South” respectively. Listen in to hear what they had to say!

 

On Thursday, October 18th at our Annual Fundraiser we launched our full festival lineup for the 16th Annual Regent Park Film Festival. This year’s lineup includes 44 films, including our very own Home Made Visible artists collection. The entire Regent Park Film Festival offers FREE ADMISSION and FREE CHILDCARE and runs Nov. 14 – 17th, 2018.

Home Made Visible at the sixth annual York University Department of History’s Public History Symposium.

The Symposium will showcase organizations in Toronto that are dedicated to preserving the historical records of immigrants and their organizations, and democratizing access to historical knowledge in and about their communities. Join Home Made Visible’s Project Manager Elizabeth Mudenyo for a round table discussion on Diversifying Collections, Then and Now.
